More bad NEWS: You can't use the Audapter synthesiser (Neither Serial Nor Parelell) under XP. I know Parelell devices can't be used under XP. (This is a JAWS-specific problem, Window-eyes doesn't seme to be affected).
Actualy, The audapter was developped in 1989, and the Microsoft Synth was newer sujesting a sampling Rate of 44 KHZ.
Hi
i believe the reason this synth can no longer be used is that the SSIL (note the spelling) drivers that jaws uses to talk to older synthesizers are 16 bit, and xp will not support them.
Window eyes does not have this issue because Gw Micro at some point wrote there own drivers to work with these synthesizers, but freedom has not. Think pulse Data was going to work with them to change this on the braille note front, but doubt things have moved along. Furthermore, i don't know of a work around for you.
Hope this helps
